Welcome to
the Alamo City Burger Project!
Contained
herein you will find an exploration into San Antonio’s burger culture.
My friends
and I have a passion for hamburgers and thought documenting our burger
experiences would open communication for a shared love, maybe even impress upon
the culinary community the burger standards we would like to see achieved
across Bexar county.
Much
respect has to go to those that came before us.
Notably The Chicago Burger Project which I used to read when I lived
there. More recently, a friend of mine,
Jeff Pearl, wrote Jeff Eats Chicago.
Evaluation
protocols.
I’ll try to
break down each meal by Service & Setting, Menu, Beverages, Patty, Dress
and Bun, Sides and finally a Verdict.
Geoff and other friend’s opinions will be featured as well. We will use a 1- to 5-spur rating, with the
assumption that 20% of burgers in all of San Antonio fall into each of these 5
ratings. Most likely we’ll gravitate to
more reputable burgers, so we expect our ratings to fall on the higher
end. A 1-spur burger should be avoided,
a 2-spur burger is ok in a pinch, a 3-spur burger is worthwhile if you are in
the neighborhood, 4-spur is worth a trip across town, and a 5-spur burger is
worth a trip from outside the city.
A little
about myself: I am in my early 30’s and
moved here from Chicago in 2015 to work in the medical center. I live in Tobin Hill with my dog and
wife. I spent most of my formative years
in and around Chicago, and have always been an enthusiast for great food
experiences from hot dogs to haute cuisine.
Burger up!
