Late May 2018
A Saturday afternoon late
lunch that needed to be convenient so Geoff could get back to work. Pulled up the map, and found a burger spot
right next to one we pledged never to return to (cough- Hawx - cough). Blink and you might miss it, Fattboy Burgers
on Vance Jackson was our second ACBP burger.
Service and Ambiance
Standard counter operation.
A few picnic tables outside. Played an
eclectic mix of 80’s music. Staff was
very friendly, and offered to explain a pretty straightforward menu. Lots of options for hot sauce.
Menu
No surprises. Burgers, dogs,
chicken sandwiches. Lots of size options to match your hunger level. A generous list of toppings and customizable
options. They also have an ice cream bar
serving Blue Bell. They serve up a pretty tempting banana split.
Beverage
Soda and ice tea only. Unfortunately, the soda machine down for the
count when we went. No beer or alcohol.
Patty
Again, weren’t asked how we
wanted it cooked, but given they pancake the patty for a griddle burger, it’s
less important. We both opted for the
Fattboy – ½ pound burger. From the first
bite, you know you’re eating a good burger.
Great char from the griddle, excellent juice, and you can actually taste
the meat despite a pretty well-dressed burger.
Choice of Sesame seed, wheat and Texas toast. We both opted for sesame. Geoff liked the bun a little more than I did. It had a good toast, but mine fell apart a bit – likely a result of all of the wet toppings. Speaking of toppings, they go deep with options. I added on cheese and a generous portion of avocado for a small charge, and then you can load up on the sauces and veg to your heart’s desire. I am a big grilled onion fan, and they went great on this burger.
Sides
We got house-cut fries and onion
rings. You could tell the fries where
fresh cut; good but not too exciting.
Could have maybe gone over the top with more time in the fryer or maybe
some seasoning salt. Also offer fried pickles and mushrooms in which we did not
partake.
The Verdict
I came hungry and left
full. The portion options, the customizability on toppings, and fast and
friendly service really make this a great counter operation. For that, I think
it’s worth a dive across town, and don’t forget to use your GPS to find it set
back from the road.
4 Spurs.
